Shockwave Therapy
Shockwave Therapy
Shockwave therapy is a safe, effective, and non-invasive way to relieve pain and repair injured muscles and tendons.
It is especially effective at treating stubborn and long-standing conditions such as plantar fasciitis, Achilles injury, knee pain, and shin splints.
It is fast, effective, and clinically proven 80% and 95% of the time and effective in reducing pain.
How Does it Work?
Shockwave therapy uses high-pressured acoustic shockwaves that travel through the skin to break down targeted tissue and stimulate tissue repair. Simply, it kick starts the body’s natural healing processes and accelerates the process whilst at the same time providing incredible pain relief without the need for medications. More specifically, it is thought to work by...
-
Increasing circulation
-
Breaking down calcification deposits Stimulating fibroblast (soft tissue cells) production healing ligaments, tendons, muscles etc.
-
Stimulating osteoblast (bone cells) production
-
Healing bone Stimulating the “gate-control” mechanism for pain relief Inhibiting Cox II Enzyme, producing an anti-inflammatory effect.
What is the Process?
The Podiatrist applies a lubricating gel on the area, the handpiece is placed on the surface of the skin and the wave pulses are transmitted through the head of the handpiece and into the skin to reach the targeted area.
It does not break your skin or cause any damage to the skin. The treatment takes around 5 minutes and you are able to walk out comfortably with no lingering effects.
Most people experience a small pain reduction immediately however the lasting effects are usually experienced in the days and weeks following the treatment once your body has had time to heal.
Shockwave therapy has proven its safety and effectiveness in numerous scientific studies. The best quality studies show it to be effective between 80% and 95% of the time and effective in reducing pain.
Does it Hurt?
Shockwave therapy is nothing to be afraid of, it is similar to a deep tissue massage where you may experience some tenderness that is tolerable and often pleasurable. The tenderness that is often felt initially generally subsides quickly. The settings are adjustable and typically begin low before being built up as you adjust to the sensation.
We continually check in with you and adjust the setting to ensure you are comfortable the entire treatment.
How Often Should I Use Shockwave?
Usually one treatment is applied for between 1 and 5 weeks. The treatment course depends on the nature of the injury.
