Cortisone Injections

When pain is stopping you in your tracks, fast relief matters.

Cortisone injections can be a useful treatment option for certain painful conditions affecting the foot and ankle. They work by reducing inflammation within irritated tissues and can help settle pain that has not responded to other treatments.

Jordan is an endorsed podiatrist, meaning he has completed additional postgraduate training that allows him to prescribe scheduled medicines and perform cortisone injections when appropriate. These injections can be arranged following a consultation and assessment, or completed following referral from another podiatrist, GP or practitioner who has already performed an assessment and confirmed the diagnosis.

Ultrasound guidance is used where appropriate to help accurately target the affected structure. This can improve the precision of the injection and ensure the medication is delivered to the correct area.

Cortisone injections are usually considered as part of a broader treatment plan rather than a stand-alone treatment. They may be combined with rehabilitation exercises, footwear advice, orthotic therapy or activity modification to help address the underlying cause of the problem.

In some situations cortisone injections can be particularly helpful when faster pain relief is needed, for example when symptoms are significantly limiting daily activity or when there are time pressures related to sport, work or upcoming events.

Conditions that may benefit from cortisone injection therapy include:

  • Plantar heel pain and plantar fasciitis
  • Intermetatarsal bursitis
  • Joint inflammation within the foot
  • Certain tendon related conditions
  • Persistent inflammatory foot pain that has not responded to conservative treatment
