Running places significant demands on the feet and lower limbs. Small changes in loading patterns, running mechanics or technique can contribute to pain, injury or reduced performance. A detailed running assessment helps identify these factors so they can be addressed early.
Running assessments are performed using our Zebris pressure and force analysis treadmill. This system contains over 7,000 sensors that measure how pressure moves through the foot with every step. Combined with video analysis, it allows us to assess both the forces going through your feet and the visual movement patterns of your running technique.
Within a few minutes the system captures detailed data about the way you run, providing objective information that cannot be seen during a standard clinical examination.
During the assessment we measure and analyse:
- Pressure distribution across different areas of the foot
- Weight distribution between the left and right side
- Symmetry between both legs during running
- Cadence (steps per minute)
- Step length and step width
- The way the foot rolls through each step
- How effectively the big toe contributes to propulsion
- Areas of increased pressure or “hot spots” within the foot

The camera system allows us to review the visual aspects of your running technique alongside the pressure data. This combination helps us understand how your movement patterns may be contributing to pain, injury risk or inefficiency.
Following the assessment, your podiatrist will review the results with you and develop a personalised plan to help improve your running mechanics and reduce injury risk. A detailed report of the analysis can also be generated and shared with your physiotherapist, GP, running coach or other healthcare providers involved in your care.
