Heel Pain Clinic

Heel Pain? We Can Help.

If you are dealing with heel pain, you are in the right place to find a solution. Heel pain is a major focus within our practice and our Heel Pain Clinic is specifically set up to identify the cause of your symptoms and start the right treatment immediately.

Heel pain is often blamed on plantar fasciitis, however several different structures around the heel can produce similar symptoms. The plantar fascia, heel fat pad, surrounding tendons and even nerves can all be responsible for pain in the heel. Correctly identifying the source of the problem is the key to resolving it.

Your appointment begins with a detailed clinical assessment and evaluation of how your foot and lower limb function during walking. Advanced pressure analysis and gait assessment help identify loading patterns through the foot, while on-point ultrasound is used during the consultation to directly visualise structures such as the plantar fascia, tendons and surrounding soft tissues.

Once the cause of the pain has been identified, treatment begins immediately.

We are equipped with a range of treatment options that allow heel pain to be tackled from several angles at once to settle it quickly and resolve it permanently.

  • High power laser therapy is used early to settle acute heel pain, calm irritated tissue and reduce inflammation around the plantar fascia.
  • Support and offloading techniques such as strapping, padding or custom orthotics are used where appropriate to reduce strain through the heel and allow irritated tissues to settle.
  • Custom orthotics are designed and produced quickly when they are necessary to provide immediate arch support, cushion the heel and reduce the strain being placed through the heel with every step.
  • Shockwave therapy is used in more chronic or stubborn cases to stimulate healing within the plantar fascia and break down long-standing degenerative tissue changes.
  • Rehabilitation programs are introduced to strengthen the foot and lower limb so the plantar fascia is no longer overloaded during walking and activity.
  • Footwear advice ensures you are immediately placed in shoes that properly support your foot and reduce unnecessary stress through the heel.
  • Cortisone injections are available in situations where rapid pain relief is required, particularly when symptoms are severe or there is a time pressure to settle the pain.
